Our Vibrating Poker is designed to fit into most standard cordless drill chucks which can take a 10mm shaft.
Size approximately is 620mm long x 38mm diameter, it is ideal for use with latex rubber and fibreglass moulds, the poker helps to remove air pockets and air bubbles that can occur when filling moulds with concrete or plaster. The removal of these air bubbles will give a stronger cast and a professional finish to you ornament.
This cordless vibrating poker is the most portable method that can used for the removal of air bubbles, it can also be run up and down the outside of the mould to help release air pockets.
The vibrating poker is of metal construction with rubber end caps for protection and a tapered handle for control.

Fit the poker spindle into the chuck of your cordless drill, the same as you would fit a drill bit.
Step 2
Add a small amount of wet concrete or plaster into your mould.
Step 3
Now insert the poker into the wet mix and then vibrate. The air bubbles shall then be seen coming to the surface of the mould.
Step 4
Remove the poker slowly and then add more concrete or plaster and vibrate again.
Step 5
Repeat this procedure until the mould is full.
Then trowel off the top of the concrete which shall give your ornament a smooth finish on it’s base.
Tips
A mould approximately of 300mm in depth and 200mm long x 100mm wide should take approximately 45 seconds to a minute to vibrate as per the picture.
Times can vary greatly depending on how wet or dry the mix is.
After each use the poker should then be washed with clean water avoiding the spindle shaft, which should also be sprayed with oil after each use.
On the example shown, a black dye was added to the cement mix, left to dry and be demoulded. Once dried out completely a white paint was lightly brushed over the ornament. This technique is often referred to as ‘ghosting’, which is a quick and easy method, which brings out the beauty of your ornament. This is an inexpensive way to increase attractiveness and selling potential of your ornament.
