How to Use our Concrete Roller for Railway Sleeper Log Effects
In this guide, we show you how to create your own custom concrete Timber/Log Railway Sleeper, of any size to suit your needs.
To follow this guide you will need to purchase our Concrete Roller, which can be found by clicking here.
Step 1
Create a Wooden Box to the dimensions that you require.
Tip: Using an old Shipping Pallet works well.
Step 2
Cut lengths of Reo-Bar to size.
Adding Reo-Bar to your sleeper will increase the structural strength of the finished product.
Step 3
Next, fill your box with concrete. Ensure that your Reo-Bar is placed at about half-depth.
For more information regarding concrete mixing and using dyes to create the perfect colour, view our Mix Ratios Page.
Step 4
Now, level off your mould using a spare length of wood.
Do not worry about making it look perfect as a rough pattern generally makes the finished product look more realistic.
Step 5
Make some indentations into the surface of the concrete, to represent tree knots.
Tip: Using the end of a Trowel/Broomstick works well.
Step 6
Using your trowel/broomstick, create some long deep lines into the concrete.
Step 7
Using your Concrete Roller, firmly roll in short stokes.
Step 8
Finish off lightly with roller where needed.
StepĀ 9
Now, leave the concrete to dry.
Once fully dried out, remove the boxing from the sleeper.
StepĀ 10
Paint if required.
The finish shown on the right, was created by using a watered-down black acrylic paint.
Then left to dry.
Then lightly feathered using a white paint, to enhance and highlight the textures of the sleeper.
